The new Escape offers three engine options. Its standard 168-hp 2.5-liter inline-four engine is relatively smooth and competent, but not as lively as the other two. The second option is a 1.5-liter turbo-four that produces 179 hp. Besides slightly more power, it also delivers better fuel efficiency. The most energetic engine in the lineup is a 2.0-liter turbo-four that makes 245 hp. Available on most trims and standard on the Titanium, this engine propels the SUV from zero to 60 mph in just seven seconds and offers plenty of passing power and low-end punch.All three engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The base engine comes with a shift switch and sport mode, while the turbo-four engines have shift paddles. Most trims are fitted with FWD, but AWD is available.

Performance

The 2018 Escape is an excellent choice if you're transitioning from a sedan to an SUV. Its agility and sharp steering make you feel like you're driving a car. It also comes with a good suspension system that keeps the ride smooth and composed over rough surfaces. Additionally, it performs well around corners, thanks to its ability to simulate torque-vectoring by clamping its front brakes individually. While it is one of the best-handling vehicles in its class, the Escape offers average fuel efficiency. It gets 21/29 mpg (city/highway) with its base engine and 23/30 mpg with the 1.5-liter turbo-four.

The Escape has a seating capacity of five. Its seats provide enough room and support to keep you and your passengers comfortable on long trips. Featuring a stylish dashboard and high-quality materials, its cabin is one of the most refined in its class. With its rear seats up, the SUV offers 34 cubic feet of storage space. If you fold those seats down, you'll get almost 70 cubic feet of space.The Escape comes standard with the MyKey system, six-speaker audio system, and the SYNC infotainment system. Optional features include dual-zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, navigation, satellite radio, 10-speaker audio system, and the SYNC 3 infotainment system.

Safety Features

All Ford Escape trims feature a rearview camera, driver knee air bag, and a system for limiting speed, volume, and other functions. Higher trims offer automatic emergency braking and forward-collision warning as standard equipment.
