The 3 Fastest Fords of All Time

For 115 years, Ford has been the premier name in automotive manufacturing. While many of its models are practical, economical, and affordable, the Detroit automaker doesn't skimp on the speed. With a rich heritage of performance and power, Ford has created many of the world's fastest vehicles. Here are just a few of the pavement-scorching models over Ford's history. 2017 Ford GT The 2017 GT is Ford's latest entry into the supercar market and an amazing specimen at that. It's not just an engine underneath an attractive body, though. Ford uses an amalgamation of many engineering and design ideas, including improved aerodynamics, a powerful and efficient engine, and an unrivaled power-to-weight ratio. more Under the hood, the 2017 Ford GT opts for efficiency and engineering instead of displacement or more cylinders. With a 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V-6, the GT churns out an impressive 647 horsepower and up to 550 pound-feet of torque. This pairs with a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission for swift, performance-based shifting. Superior aerodynamics and a lightweight carbon fiber body combine with this powertrain to deliver an insane zero to 60 time of just 2.9 seconds, a quarter-mile in 10.6 seconds, and a top speed of 216 mph. 2014 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 The Shelby-Ford partnership has been around since the 1960s, creating dozens of Shelby Mustangs that made the iconic muscle car a household name. However, the 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 is arguably the most impressive of them all. While the exterior has all the style cues of a regular 2014 Mustang, the GT500 had magic beneath the sheet metal with a 5.8-liter, supercharged V-8 engine that pumped out 662 horsepower and up to 631 pound-feet of torque. With a Tremec six-speed manual transmission, the GT500 posted a zero to 60 time of 4.1 seconds, a 12.1-second quarter-mile time, and a top speed of 202 mph, making it the fastest Shelby Mustang ever. 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R If you want to be the first owner of your Ford performance vehicle, feast your eyes on the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R. A sports-tuned variant of the Shelby GT350, the GT350R is track-ready thanks to an improved suspension and sport brakes on top of a massive 5.2-liter V-8 that's good for 526 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. The GT350R also gets 19-inch carbon fiber wheels, which shave off 40 pounds of weight, and high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, developed for speed and agility. Attractive racing stripes and the famed Cobra logo add to the sportiness of the vehicle and make it stand out from the pack. When you have the insatiable need for speed, put the pedal to the floor for a whopping top speed of 175 mph, a zero to 60 time of 3.9 seconds, and a quarter-mile time of 12.5 seconds. Luxury and performance automakers from around the world may steal some of Ford's thunder, but there's no denying Ford has been an innovator in the industry with its proactive approach and dedication to improved engineering. If you can get your hands on any of these vehicles, make sure to hang on tightly. You're in for a wild ride.   Photo by Falcon | Licensed under cc by 2.0

Here's everything you want to know about the latest Shelby GT inside and out. Performance The 2018 Shelby GT is ready for the track and the road. Ford outfitted it with a non-turbocharged 5.8-liter V-8 engine with 526 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. It also has race-tuned adaptive suspension, brakes set for high performance, and a few different powertrain upgrades. The engine is fairly flexible and accelerates well without any hesitation. The Shelby's true power is very impressive once released, and the sound the engine makes is unlike anything else out there. more In driving tests, the Shelby 350 GT proves to handle quite well and is at home on any racetrack or winding mountain road. But it'll also do well as a daily driver outside of its racing performance capabilities. Trims and Features The 2018 Shelby GT comes in two trim levels, the 350 and 350R. The base trim is well-equipped with 19-inch wheels, a six-speed manual transmission, Brembo brakes, adaptive suspension dampers, a Torsen rear differential, and a front-suspension tower brace. Shelby's exterior also features a rear spoiler and diffuser. The 350 GT received refreshed styling on the exterior for the 2018 model year and the vehicle retains the distinctive Shelby look. On the inside, the standard Shelby GT looks as sleek as it does outside. It features Recaro front seats with suedelike inserts, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 4.2-inch center display, Bluetooth, a six-speaker sound system, smartphone app integration, Sync technology, and two USB ports. However, adding the electronics package as an upgrade is highly recommended on both trims. The Shelby GT 350R comes with a lot of the standard features but is really built for racing. The 19-inch carbon fiber wheels with specialist Michelin tires are also part of the upgrade. It has revised suspension tuning, a carbon-fiber rear wing and front chin splitter on the body. It also lacks creature comforts like air-conditioning and others such as floor mats, the sound system, rearview camera, and a rear seat. These features plus dual-zone climate control, Sync 3 with an 8-inch touchscreen, and an 8-speaker sound system are part of an optional R-electronics package. Smartphone integration is also supported in the Shelby GT. Comfort and Utility Despite being built mainly for speed, the Shelby GT is a comfortable ride for daily driving. The seating is comfortable over long distances and doesn't interfere with the shifting of gears. The cabin is also relatively quiet. The transmission handles almost any road condition with normal or sport mode while maintaining excellent body control. Track mode is also good without being punishing. The car offers decent cargo space and storage, though there isn't a lot designated for small item storage. The 2018 Shelby GT 350 is a fast vehicle built for the track with the horsepower to back it up. It also has a good mix of comfort and features to make it a great daily driving option outside of the track. Photo by DaMongMan | Licensed under cc BY 2.0
